Franklinton’s Lady Demons softball program held its annual “total skills camp” Tuesday through Thursday.
“It’s a total skills camp where they learn various things from pitching to hitting, throwing, the correct throwing mechanics, catching, slapping (form of hitting), bunting, actual basic base running, we work fundamentals in the cage with hitting and just work on what they have, kind of fixing their fundamentals,” Franklinton coach Leslie McGhee said.
This was McGhee’s 12th year hosting the camp.
The clinic featured 24 children from ages 5 through 12.
Varsity and junior varsity players help out.
One of the players who was working at the camp is co-District 8-4A Most Valuable Player, Franklinton sophomore pitcher Aleigha Fussell.
“It makes me learn more teaching other kids because it’s just like I realize what I need to do because I’m teaching something,” Fussell said.
McGhee said the players actually teach the skills, and like Fussell, McGhee feels that the players’ teaching helps them in improving their own skills.
“When they have to teach it and break it down, then that develops their skills,” McGhee said.
