Pine golfer McKenzie headed to state

Pine’s Tanner McKenzie will finish his high school golf career at the Division III state meet.
The senior qualified for state at Wednesday’s Region II Division III Golf Tournament that took place at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge.
McKenzie tallied a 76 over the 18 holes.
Wednesday’s tournament was a qualifier. The top four teams and the top four individual golfers who are not on a team that reached state qualified.
McKenzie was second among the individual qualifiers.
Episcopal of Baton Rouge’s Boyd Owens was first for individual qualifiers with a 75 while Newman’s Max Rathie had a 78 for third and St. Charles’ Kaile Levatino recording a fourth-place finish at 79.
Ascension Episcopal won the team competition with a 298.
University Lab was second with a 315 with Dunham a stroke behind and Catholic New Iberia rounding out the team qualifying with a 326.
The Division III State Tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday at the Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette in a 36-hole competition.
