Mt. Hermon School’s Kristian Schexnider and Joley Fortenberry each had a big game in a 13-2 five-inning victory over Simsboro in Thursday’s bi-district round Class B state playoff road game.
Schexnider went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in.
Fortenberry had a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs.
Alexis Magee recorded two hits and she drove in three runs.
Alexa Bulloch and Kalei Hughes posted two hits and an RBI each.
Bailey Fortenberry had a hit and a run driven in.
Isabella Alford and Raygen Hart posted a hit each.
Bulloch pitched four innings and Schexnider threw one and the two combined for six strikeouts.
The victory was a historic one for Mt. Hermon, as this was the Lady Jackets’ first playoff win since at least 2002.
“I am really excited for the girls to get this playoff win,” Mt. Hermon coach Mary McGinnis said. “We will play Castor on Monday and hope to win another game. Our team really came together and worked hard for this great win.”
The regional round game for 18th-seeded Mt. Hermon against second-seeded Castor takes place Monday at 5 p.m. on the road. Castor had a bye in the bi-district round.
