Vanuita Thomas

Vanuita “Nita” Stogner Thomas, 83, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Thursday morning, March 7, 2019 at her home in Bogalusa. For the last decade, she lived with her daughter in Hammond and was active in activities dealing with SLU. She was a member of Fe-Lions (female enthusiasts for Lions Football). She and her husband were charter members of Highland Baptist Church in Bogalusa, where she served in many capacities including WMU director, social chairman, Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher and many other positions. She loved her church very deeply.
She is survived by one daughter, Jackie Dale Thomas of Hammond; one son, Robbie (Deborah) Thomas of Thomas; one grandson, Dustin “Dusty” Matthew (Alyssa) Thomas of Independence; two great-grandchildren, Laiken Kaine Thomas and Lexon Kait Thomas of Amite; one brother, Nathan Lerell Stogner of Bogalusa; special nieces and great nieces and nephews and numerous aunts and uncles; several children and grandchildren that while not of her blood they were “heart bloods” that called her Nanny.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56-1/2 years, M.T. Thomas; her parents, Curtis and Eurena Crain Stogner; two sisters, Vivian Temples and Charlene Simmons; and one brother, Donald Harold Stogner.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa, starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until the funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Bobby Ready, the Rev. David Hedden, and the Rev. Larry Brignac will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
