Ms. Debra Ann Smith was born July 11, 1957, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Mary C. Smith in Bogalusa. She departed this life on Feb. 1, 2019, at her residence.

Debra was a 1975 honor graduate of Bogalusa High School. After high school, Debra served in the U.S. Army Reserve, where she was honorably discharged. She worked in many capacities during her life, including telephone operator — Bell South/AT&T, Administrative worker — Bogalusa Housing Authority; Clerk-Service Zone; and Psych Tech — Charity Hospital of Mandeville.

Debra was an active member of Thirkield United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and The Usher Board.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mary and Joe Smith; her grandparents, Ella and Mitchell Carter; her sisters, Pamela Smith and Mary Ella Smith Fields; brother, Coach Melton Harry; and her cousin, Alvin Carter, who was just like her brother.

She will be fondly remembered and forever loved by her sisters, Penny S. Mack, Cynthia S. Jackson and Joelnette Collins of Bogalusa; four brothers, Joseph L. Smith of New Orleans, Richard W.(Gwynderlyn) Smith and Glyne E. Smith of Bogalusa, and Rickey Hill of Jackson, Miss.; her aunt, Mattie C. Wallace of Bogalusa; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her loving Thirkield family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 11, at the chapel of Crain & Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Thirkield United Methodist Church in Bogalusa, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Nolan Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
