Basketball’s getting to the home stretch

The high school basketball season is heading for the home stretch as teams try to put themselves in a position in the playoffs or attempt to reach postseason play.

The district seasons are beginning to get under way for LHSAA schools and some already have begun.

The district season is an opportunity in a sense of a new season. For those who have struggled in non-district action, it is a chance to get things going in the opposite direction. For those who have had a solid non-district year, the district season is a chance to keep things going in a positive direction.

Washington Parish features 10 total LHSAA basketball teams between the boys and girls squads.

Seven of the teams began their league schedule this week. That group included both teams from Bogalusa, Pine and Varnado, along with Franklinton’s girls team. Mt. Hermon’s teams and Franklinton’s boys will start later this month.

Among the local MAIS teams, Ben’s Ford Christian School played its first district game in December and is in a stretch where seven of its final regular season games are against district teams.

The other MAIS team, Bowling Green, opens league play later this month and will play its final six regular season games against district opponents.

Good luck to all of the teams on a solid finish.
