Lumberjacks defeated by Salmen on Friday

SLIDELL — Bogalusa traveled to Salmen to face off against the Spartans on Friday. BHS went in with a 1-2 record and off a loss to Franklinton. Salmen went in with hopes to post their first win of 2018.
The first quarter was packed with action for both teams. Salmen scored first with a five-play drive. From the 10, Justin Hudson handed off to Aaron Williams for the carry. Williams broke through the Bogalusa defense for the touchdown. Theo Batista made the extra point kick and Salmen went on the board, 7-0.
BHS answered back with a six-play drive which ended with a pass from Josh Taylor to Raheem Roberts from the 41. Roberts caught it at the 11 and ran in for the touchdown. Taylor attempted the two-point conversion with a hand off to Tyrese Rousell, but the Salmen defense held him back, keeping it 7-6. Salmen wasted no time and with a quarterback keep by Hudson, scored their second touchdown at the very last second of the first quarter. Batista made the extra point kick and the score was 14-6 going into the second.The second quarter saw a sudden turn in the game against Bogalusa. The first play, Taylor threw a pass intended for Tyrese Rousell. The pass was intercepted by Marcel White and the Spartans took over at the Lumberjacks’ 10. A quick hand off by Hudson to Williams netted the Spartans their third touchdown. Batista made the kick and the score was 21-6. BHS got back in the game two minutes later. Hudson’s pass to Ronald Lymeul was intercepted by Demarcus Spikes and run back for 80 yards and BHS’ second touchdown. Taylor again attempted the extra point but was held back by the defense and the score was 21-12. At the end of the half, the Spartans scored one last touchdown with a hand off from Hudson to Karl Owens from the 15. Batista fumbled the kick and it was 27-12 at halftime.
Both teams’ defenses rallied after halftime. While the Lumberjack defense hardened against the five Spartan drives, it wasn’t until a minute and a half left in the fourth that the Bogalusa’s offense was able to overcome the Spartan defense and score one last touchdown. It was Taylor with a quarterback keep from the 11 yardline for the game’s final points. BHS hosts South Plaquemines on Friday.
