Franklinton High School’s Kennedy Hughes

Franklinton senior Kennedy Hughes is a two-sport athlete. Hughes is a setter on the volleyball team and she plays left forward for the school’s soccer team. Last year, she was a second-team all-district volleyball player.
“Kennedy is a dedicated player that serves in a leadership role with the team and we’re glad to have her onboard,” Franklinton volleyball coach Caleb Mulina said.

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports? Why?
I enjoy the lack of individuality. It’s a team sport and the comaraderie and the sisterhood that comes with it and the fact we have to work as one unit.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
I think I like the leadership and the responsibility it gives me because I have to manage school and athletics and keep them both balanced. It gives a good schedule to like a routine.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My mom (Jennifer Jenkins) by far. She played high school volleyball, high school basketball and she’s a coach and she’s coached all since she’s been a teacher. Just kind of having her coach me as I grew up has really influenced how I play and my competitiveness.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
Probably soccer player Mia Hamm because she played in high school and a lot of people told her she would never make it to college and pro and she ended up being one of the best and most influential soccer players of this time.

Favorite team?
Arkansas Razorbacks.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
I think the best thing is the homey atmosphere. You know that if you need something and you walk down the street that somebody is going to be there to help you and somebody’s always going to be there to lend a hand and keep from making any mistakes and keep you on your best behavior. People are always going to be there to support you.
