Sister Rosie Roberts Martin was the third of six children to the late Leon Roberts and Ruthanna Jefferson Roberts. She was born on April 4, 1924, in Hub, Miss. She moved to the Live Oak community and attended Live Oak Elementary School. She was united in holy matrimony to Dewitt Martin on May 27, 1942.
Rosie Roberts Martin united with the Wesley Ray United Methodist Church early in life. She was a faithful church and choir member until her health began to fail. She also served as a choir treasurer. She served as a Red Cross representative for many years.
Mama Rose, as we called her, was well known for her charming personality and her Southern hospitality. Her passion was taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, farming, cultivating and working diligently at it. She was a very caring and giving person to her family and community.
She was loved by all and will be greatly missed by all. She leaves to cherish her memories: Clarise Waddell, Linda Peters, and Ruthie Torrence of Angie; and two sons, Nuell Martin of Kingsport, Tenn., and Lindsey (Eldora) Martin of Dearborn, Mich. Also, a granddaughter who she reared, Tesha Myers of Murrieta, Calif.; two special sisters-in-law, Lillian Roberts of Varnado and Roxie Roberts of Angie; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and a special former daughter-in-law, Ezzie Ruth Martin of Richmond, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Martin; a daughter, Barbara Pittman; and a step-son, Willie E. Martin. She was also preceded in death by all five of her siblings.
