FPD officials said that Pfc. Barry Galloway, while on patrol Saturday, observed an individual who was known to have an outstanding felony warrant with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office. Galloway conducted a traffic stop on the individual, later identified as Alvester Thomas of Vessier Road in Franklinton.

FPD officials said that when Galloway approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor emanating from the vehicle, which Galloway recognized as the smell of marijuana.

Thomas was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant, and at that time Galloway also reportedly observed a marijuana blunt in plain sight. As other officers arrived, Galloway conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered several packages of suspected marijuana, powder cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin, according to FPD officials.

Thomas was charged with being a fugitive from another jurisdiction, possession with intent to distribute Schedule II crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Schedule II powder cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I heroin and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I marijuana.

Thomas was turned over to the WPSO for processing.
