Charlene McDaniel Travis, 88, of Poplarville, Miss., passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. Travis was born June 4, 1929, in Stillmore, Miss., to Charlie and Lula Belle Ward McDaniel. She was a retired typesetter with The Daily News of Bogalusa, and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Travis; two sons, Kelly Travis and Kevin Travis; one grandson, Cody Smith; and her stepfather, Allen Amacker.

Family members include two daughters, Karen Bryden and Kathy Smith; three brothers, Robert Amacker, Gerald Amacker and Larry Amacker; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 7451 Highway 43 North, in Poplarville, on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. Rev. Billy Kent Smith officiated the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends and had visitation from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at the church; and continued on the following Tuesday, two hours prior to the service.
