Early Wednesday morning, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle crash on the elevated section of Interstate 55 near mile marker 21 in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the lives of Earl J. Daigle, 78, and his passenger Anna Nimon, 73, both from Schriever.
Troopers determined that the crash occurred as Daigle’s vehicle was struck from behind by a truck driven by Brian D. Gregoire of Ponchatoula. Daigle’s vehicle crashed into the right bridge rail, overturned, and then struck the left bridge rail. Nimon, the front seat passenger, was pronounced deceased on-scene and Daigle died after being transported to North Oaks Health Systems.
Gregoire was not injured in the crash. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts and impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing. Any criminal findings will be forwarded to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office pending the outcome of the investigation.
