Leon Sampere

Leon C. Sampere, 83, a resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.

He served in the National Guard. He was born on Nov. 11, 1933, in New Orleans. He was a longtime resident of Bogalusa, past president of the Bogalusa Rotary Club, and a longtime member of MCCA.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Phyllis Byrd Sampere of Bogalusa; three daughters, Karen (Tony) Lopardi of New Orleans, Kathy Gorman of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Laura Hicks of Bogalusa; a sister, Lilitha BonVillian of Metairie; six grandchildren, Kelli Lopardi, Anthony “T.J.” (Renee) Lopardi, Katherine Lopardi, Garrett Hicks, Mariah Gorman, and Matthew Gorman; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Garden of Peace in Ponemah Cemetery.
