Shirley Rogers

Shirley Claudine Bias Rogers, affectionately known as Claudine, Clee, Mama, Aunt Shirley, Nanny and Shirley Rogers was born on March 22, 1938, in Columbia, Miss., to the late Carl Bias Sr., and E. L. Watts Bias. Shirley united in holy matrimony on May 6, 1956, to John Henry Rogers and to this union three beautiful girls were born.

Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and was reared in her home church, Second Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia. After relocating to Bogalusa, Shirley united with Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir. She was an active member of the church until she relocated to Houston, Texas.

She was a dedicated wife for 38 years, and a mother whose pride and joy were her girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shirley leaves cherishing her memories: her daughters, Sheila Harrison of New Orleans, Glenda Warner (Darrell) and Roslyn Rogers-Jackson of Houston, and Joyce Brown of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Howard Bias Sr., two sisters, Carlis Bias Rawls and Artemease Bias Bass of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Ashleigh Claudine Rogers, Darrell Colin Warner (Natasha), John Corbin Warner, Shirley Maurissa Robertson (Ron), Jonathan Troy Harrison Sr. (Tasha), Taylor Denise Jackson, and Sherman Brown; two great grandchildren, Jonathan Troy Harrison Jr., and Ron Christopher Robertson Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Bias Sr. and E. L. Watts; brothers, Carl Bias Jr., and Jessie Bias; and sisters, Geraldine Bias, Ruby Mae Cyrus, Mary Lou Spates, Etoy Allison, Jerutha Expose Thompson, Sally McCracken and Bonnie Smith.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 1, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., followed by a family hour from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Cook-Richmond Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. C. Expose officiating on Saturday, Sept. 2, at noon.
