Be aware of kids’ safety, as school returns

School is back in session, and The Daily News wants to remind all of its readers to remain alert as they drive around the parish.

Children are out and about, and they can be unpredictable. When they are playing, they might suddenly dart into the path of a motor vehicle. And they can get distracted otherwise, and not pay attention to what they are doing. We know you would never want to hurt a child. So please stay alert!

In school zones, near individual schools, congestion might occur. So it’s best to pay very close attention to what the students and their elders are doing. In the mornings, the kids might not be fully awake, or they might be overly eager to see and to play with their friends. And in the afternoons, they could be all worked up about having been with their friends all day, and that might make them careless.

It’s a good bet that parents and other adults will be distracted as well. So please remain attentive and be careful for other people’s children as well as your own.

We know you will be glad to get through another school year without an unfortunate incident.
