Gertrude Hughes

Gertrude Hughes was born on May 19, 1954, to the late C.L. and Fannie Hughes in Mobile, Ala., and departed this life Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loved ones.

Gertrude was a longtime resident of Bogalusa. She was a member of Allen Temple Church of God in Christ. She attended Washington Parish Schools.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Ronnell (Lorraine) Sartin of Bogalusa, Patrick “PT” Sartin of Bogalusa; one daughter, Anita (Jerome) Garrett of Franklinton; four grandsons, Makih Sartin of Bogalusa and My’Quin Sartin of Texas, Sammy Garrett and Jaheim Garrett of Franklinton; seven granddaughters, Lawanna (Richard) Robinson, Ronnella Sartin, Aaliyah (Kenyell) Sartin, all of Bogalusa, Whitney Sartin of Baton Rouge, Rochelle Williams and Tisha (Cory) Pearson, of Bogalusa, and Ja’niya Garrett of Franklinton; three sisters, Martha Dallas of Gulfport, Miss., Rose Hughes and Marlyin Dillon of Bogalusa; three brothers, W.C. Hughes and Sanders Hughes and Marvin (Annie) Hughes of Bogalusa; special friends, Yvette Bearden, Tiesha Myles, Janice Fields and Lisa Magee; and a host of nieces, relatives and friends.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her life’s one companion, Johnny Lee Johnson; two children, Samuel Moses and Lawanna Moses; her parents, Fannie and C.L. Hughes; two brothers, D.L. “Jake” Hughes and Bobby “Santana” Hughes; two sisters, Mildred Brown and Danny Pearl Webb; one niece, Tyshekia Hughes; and one nephew, Robert Brown.

Visitation will be Friday, April 14, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home, with family visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 15, at Brown’s Temple at 1 p.m. The Rev. Leon Chambers will be officiating.
