Bennie Ruth Spivey

Bennie Ruth Spivey was born on Jan. 28, 1935, to George Patrick Spivey Sr. and Essie “Bell” Jones Spivey and departed this life on Feb. 23, 2017.

She graduated from Central Memorial High School in Bogalusa. She furthered her education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, and later became a life member of the National Southern University Alumni Federation. After working in the public sector, Bennie Ruth became self-employed as a tax preparer, and humbly served the Bogalusa community for over 35 years.

Bennie Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Charles; and dear cousin, Myrtle Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Wendell D. May of Iowa, La., and George P. Spivey III (Victoria) of Lithonia, Ga.; and daughter, Darlene Spivey-Fisher (Johnny) of Starkville, Miss. She was the proud grandmother to four grandchildren, Ileen G. May of Houston, Texas, George P. Spivey IV of Moreno Valley, Calif., Ayanna C. Spivey of Moreno Valley and Wendell D. May II of Houston. With love and affection, she was the great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren, a beloved aunt to two nephews, and advisor, confidant and life coach to a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 4, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa, with Elder Myron Peters officiating.
