Everyone should participate in Mardi Gras.

We hope our readers are enjoying a seasonal break from work and routine stress.

Of course, in Bogalusa, where Christmas and New Year’s dissolve into the Mardi Gras season, the fun doesn’t end on Jan. 1.

As in years past, the Krewe of MCCA will be kicking off the Mardi Gras season on Dec. 31 at the American Legion with the big reveal of the best-kept secret in Bogalusa: the king, queen and the royal court.

Most every place on earth marks Christmas and the New Year with special commemorations and traditions. However, Mardi Gras is special in only a few places and perhaps it is nowhere more special than in Bogalusa, a city that proudly hosts a parade far larger than anyone could reasonably expect in a city this size. This is a feat accomplished in no small part by a coterie of very dedicated citizens and we salute them. However, the parade’s magic also comes from the general community who pour out to line the streets and bring the magic to MCCA.

Bogalusa has its needs, like any city, but we have strength, spirit and traditions that make our city special. This year, please remember to get involved and take part in all of it.
