Mystery car discovered in creek, upside down

On Tuesday, Kasie Fleming went fishing in the Bogue Lusa Creek off Willis Avenue.

Fleming said she goes fishing for bass in the same spot, just off the Richmond Street Bridge every couple of days and Tuesday could have been any other day.

Except the water was a bit lower than usual.

Except that, through the murky brown water, she spied the front bumper and tires of what appears to be a sedan, overturned and wholly submerged.

Fleming said she was shocked.

“Yeah, I was more nervous about making sure there was nobody in there,” she said.

As of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, it’s not clear how the car got in the creek. There are no tire tracks or any other obvious signs of entry into the water, and it is possible the car was a victim of the March flooding.

Police and city officials are working with wrecker crews to extract the car and, ideally, an explanation.
