BHS athlete deserved hall of fame pick

This past Saturday, 1980 Bogalusa High School graduate Robert Smith was inducted into the Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame.

Smith, whose nickname was “Big Bird,” recorded 384 tackles and 48.5 sacks at Grambling during a four year career. He started all four years as well.

After that, he continued his football career at the professional level where he played in the USFL, NFL, CFL and Arena Football League.

During his football career, he played under some legendary coaches, beginning in high school with Lewis V. Murray Jr., and continuing through college and the pros with Eddie Robinson, George Allen, Tom Landry and Bud Grant.

Smith was one of 10 people inducted into the hall and he said he was honored and it was a special moment for him and his family.

Congratulations to Big Bird on his induction and on an amazing career.
