Benefit softball tourney is Saturday

The second annual Bogalusa Firefighter’s Auxiliary softball tournament will take place Saturday at the Bogalusa Sports Complex on Avenue B.

“We’re currently seeking teams,” auxiliary president Kimberly Mathews said Monday. “If anybody wants to enter a team, they can enter as late as that morning. We’re hoping for a good turnout.”

There are two brackets — co-ed and men’s. Mathews said they are looking for teams in both brackets.

The event is a benefit tournament. Half the proceeds go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and half go to the auxiliary to provide items for the fire department.

“We’re very excited to hopefully provide the fire department with things they need,” Mathews said. “The city is under a tight budget and sometimes the things the fire department needs have to be provided in different ways.”

The tournament also features a raffle with prizes from local businesses.

The grand prize is a two-night stay at LaQuinta in Biloxi, Miss., which was donated by Children’s International Group in Bogalusa.

Another prize is eight passes to the Audubon Nature Institute. Art is being donated by Cajun Canvas and More.

There are also tickets to the Bogalusa Blues & Heritage Festival.

Raffle tickets are $1 or six for $5.

The entry fee is $200 per team.
