Franklinton’s football team took to the field Saturday afternoon for the team’s spring game against Hammond on the road.

The Demons scored six touchdowns to Hammond’s one.

Franklinton first-year head coach Stephen Burris said the team played better than he expected.

“We still have a long way to go, but saw a lot bright spots for the season ahead,” Burris said. “We dominated from the word go and played fast and aggressive.”

Burris said he’s very proud of how the team performed.

“Senior leadership was excellent all spring, and when you have leaders, success is bound to follow,” Burris said.

Tahj Magee rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another. His running scores were from 60 and 2 yards out while his pass was to Lagarian Bell for about 18 yards.

Trequan Charles and Mike Martin scored a rushing touchdown each. Charles had a 2-yard run while Martin scored from the 5.

Defensively, Rodney King recovered a fumble at Hammond’s 1 and took it in for a touchdown.

The spring game was a controlled scrimmage.

The first teamers ran sets of eight plays on offense and defense. They also ran a red-zone series beginning at the 25.

The junior varsity ran sets of six plays. The J.V. team lost two touchdowns to one.
