Dorothy Bailey

Dorothy Bilbo Bailey, a resident of Bogalusa for the past 68 years, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. She was 90 years old.
Mrs. Dot, as everyone called her, was born in Carriere, Miss., on Aug. 10, 1925 to Della Fairley Bilbo and Carey Bilbo. She was raised in Mobile, Ala., and graduated from Murphy High School.
As a child, she and her classmates walked through the original tunnel going under the Mobile Bay the day it opened. She married Stanley Bailey on Sept. 7, 1947. While raising her four children, she was a homemaker, a leader in Bluebird and Campfire Girls, an assistant leader for Cub Scouts, and a Sunday School teacher.
Eventually, she worked for the Selective Service before going to the trade school where she became a licensed ward clerk for Bogalusa Community Medical Center. She retired from BCMC in 1990.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Bailey Crain of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Lauren Bailey Miller of Bogalusa; two sons, Charles Edward Bailey and Leverette Stanley Bailey (Ellen), both of Bogalusa; one former daughter-in-law, Patty Bailey of Moss Bluff; one former son-in-law, Seedy Miller of Dixie, Miss.; six grandchildren, LeighAnne Crain Kittrell (Jon) of Hattiesburg, Toby Miller, Terri Miller-Rachel (J.B.) both of Bogalusa, Nikki Bailey Dugas (Craig) of Moss Bluff, Kim Bailey Crowe (David) of Franklinton, and Dustin Stanley Bailey of Bogalusa; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carey B. Bilbo (Mary Frances) of Mobile, Theodore G. Bilbo II (Yvonne) of Fairhope, Ala. and Larry Bilbo of Mobile; one sister, Brenda Bilbo Fountain; and one sister-in-law, Diane Bilbo of Biloxi, Miss.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cary and Della Bilbo; her husband, Stanley Bailey; one granddaughter, Bridgette Lorraine Bailey; and one brother, Charles Deloach Bilbo.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Kyle Routzahn, Rev. Jon Kittrell and Rev. Scott Breland officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
