Katherine “Bobbie” Amrhein Johnson, born April 14, 1926, went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2016, at the age of 89.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher, she is survived by four children, Kathy Johnson Cuthbert (Dan) of Baton Rouge, Mike Johnson (Lori) of Baton Rouge, Lynn Johnson of San Ramon, Calif., and Sarah Johnson Pierce (Charles) of Franklin, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Caitlin, Connor, Chandler, Payton and Parker Johnson, and Michael and Katie Pierce; and one sister-in-law, Rosemary Johnson Knight (Esco) of Bogalusa.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Nelson Bateman Johnson, and parents, M. F. and Marjorie Amrhein of Zachary.

Bobbie was born and raised in Zachary, and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1947 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education. She began her teaching career at St. Vincent’s Academy in Shreveport, and after wedding Nelson in 1948, moved to Angie.

She continued her love of teaching and coaching basketball for the next 40 years at Angie High School and Angie Junior High School. For over 20 years she was a 4-H leader and spent her life devoted to her family, community and students.

In 2005, she and Nelson moved to Baton Rouge, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Bobbie was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 14, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, with the service to follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Father Daniel Brouillette officiating.
