Leroy Scroggs

Leroy M. “Bordie” Scroggs, a resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at the age of 87, at Rest Haven Living Center in Bogalusa.
Bordie was a member of the United States Army, serving during the occupation of Japan, he was a member of the American Legion and retired from I.B.E.W. and oldest living member of Local 1077, and a lifelong member of Union Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Evelyn Stafford Scroggs of Bogalusa; three children, Sheryl Shelby of Ocean Springs, Miss., Roy Scroggs and Jimmy Scroggs (Linda) of Bogalusa; three step-children, Larry Blackwell (Della) of Cheyenne, Wyo., Linda Sue O’Quinn of Mandeville, La, and Richard Blackwell (Eva) of Denham Springs, La; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Scroggs; three sisters, Cleo Sticker, Thelma Cutrer, and Rita Capo; and one brother, Richard Wayne Scroggs.
Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 25, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Visitation will continue on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel from noon to 2 p.m. The Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., with Rev. Joseph Porter officiating. Interment to follow at Ponemah Cemetery with military graveside services by the Magic City American Legion Post No. 24.
Active pallbearers will be Joshua Scroggs, Matt Shelby, Mike Shelby, Jay O’Quinn, Jeremy O’Quinn and Scott Blackwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy “Milo” Branch, Mack McGehee, Harold Ritchie, William Stogner, Dan Philips, Sammy Lively, Buddy McElveen and Eddie Bernard.
