Margaret C. Kitchens

Margaret Evelyn Cutrer Kitchens, 95, a long time resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015. She was born on Oct. 20, 1919, to Jesse and Dixie Cutrer in Kentwood.
Margaret was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and worked at the family-owned Red Bird Ice Cream Company in Bogalusa alongside her brothers, J. H. Cutrer and Carl Cutrer Sr., until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her brothers and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brother, Carl E. Cutrer Sr. of Bogalusa; three nieces, Dixie Sanderson (Tom) of Birmingham, Ala., Carol Coutrier of Groton, Mass., and Margaret Tynes (David) of Petal, Miss.; nephews, Hardy Cutrer (Lori) of Baton Rouge and Clyde Cutrer Jr. (Jackie) of Franklin, Tenn.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is also survived by special caregivers who became part of her extended family through the devotion and care they gave her: Jessica Ritter, Leata Mingo, Suzone Graham, Sue Taylor, Kirsten Graham and Debbie Galloway; and her devoted physical therapist John Gulczynski.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bryan A. Kitchens; two brothers, Jesse H. Cutrer Jr. and Clyde Cutrer Sr.; a niece, Denise Cutrer Sandlin; and a nephew, Carl Cutrer Jr.
Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Whaley officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 541 Ave. F, Bogalusa, LA 70427 or Bibles be donated through the Gideons International organizations.
