Bowling Green suffered losses to Brookhaven Academy and Silliman Institute in softball on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively.
Bowling Green, which was the visiting team for both contests, lost to Brookhaven, 5-0, in non-district action.
Brookhaven scored twice in the second and three more times in the fifth. The Lady Buccaneers were limited to three hits. Landry Dupont singled twice and Taylor Oalmann singled once.
Against Silliman, the district game was scoreless through four innings.
Bowling Green scored a run in the fifth inning to go ahead, 1-0. Silliman came back and scored all five of its runs in the sixth inning.
Two runners scored on errors and the other three came in on a two-run homer.
The Lady Buccaneers finished with three hits. McKinley Seal and Madison LaSalle and Shelby McDonald all recorded one hit for Bowling Green. McDonald’s hit was a double. LaSalle drove in a run and Seal scored a run.
Bowling Green did a good job of showing patience at the plate, collecting six walks in the contest.
Bowling Green coach Holly Breland said Brookhaven was a tough loss, but added that she was happy with her team’s performance against Silliman.
“We didn’t have our bats that game (against Brookhaven),” Breland said. “(Tuesday night), I was very impressed. My girls played ball. Unfortunately, you can’t help the home run — that’s part of the game, but they did a phenomenal job.”
Bowling Green is 5-5 overall and 4-2 in district play.
The Lady Buccaneers play again Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Brookhaven Tournament. Their next home game is Monday, Sept. 14, against Centreville. The following day, the team stays in the parish and heads to Ben’s Ford Christian School to face the Lady Eagles.
