Fair poster design focuses on crafts

Bob Ann Breland’s winning design of the 2015 Washington Parish Free Fair poster features several common sights at the event — including canned produce and quilts.

Breland said that she had entered the contest twice before, but both times her design failed to win the vote of the poster committee. However this year, she was informed that her oil painting would serve as the official poster design.

“I knew what I wanted the poster to look like,” Breland said. “I am a quilting and canning person, myself. I felt like the homemakers’ building at the fair has never really been featured on the poster before, so I wanted to include it.”

The poster will be on sale at the fair for $20 each.

Poster committee chairman Kay Bell said that there were five other designs entered in the contest, in addition to Breland’s. Breland was informed in early August that her design had been picked.

Breland has been a fan of the fair for many years. She is a member of the fair’s “honor roll” and has also served as its “mystery person” in the past.

The Washington Parish Free Fair is Wednesday, Oct. 21, through Saturday, Oct. 24.
