Aubrey L. Posey, of 40643 Highway 1056 in Franklinton, announces his candidacy for re-election to District 7 Washington Parish Council seat.

Posey has served as chairman and vice-chairman of the council and has served on the infrastructure, road, personnel, finance, health unit and landfill committees.

Posey said that he believes he has assisted in bringing professionalism and transparency to Washington Parish government. He has worked with other council members and agencies on special projects for the parish.

Posey said that he is proud of helping to bring the parish out of debt to a point where there will be no debt within the next year. Also, he is proud of being a part of the group that has a plan to blacktop all parish roads within the next 18 months.

Posey said that Washington Parish government is not broken and does not need to be “fixed.”

He noted that there is always room for improvement and he is committed to working with others to make Washington Parish a better place to live, raise a family, work and retire.

Posey is married to Minnie Shelton Posey. They have five children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he serves on the Board of Deacons, as a director of the Upward Basketball Program and as a substitute Sunday school teacher.

He is a board member and past president of the Franklinton Dixie Baseball Program and board member of the Franklinton Chamber of Commerce. Posey is Building and Grounds Chairman for the Washington Parish Fair Association, having served as president in 2004-2005.

Posey is a military veteran, having served overseas during the Vietnam War.

He worked with the LSU Agricultural Center and retired after 40 years. He still assists with the Junior Livestock Show, Beef Classic, Open Dairy Show and the Washington Parish Cattlemen’s Association.
