Franklinton homeowner Bobby Smith Jr. was released from the hospital Friday, after being shot earlier in the day by an armed intruder.

Two black males reportedly approached Smith at his home in the 4300 block of Tod Wilson Road, just north of Franklinton, as Smith was working in his backyard Friday morning. One of the suspects was in possession of a pistol, while the other had a large knife.

The two males reportedly forced Smith into the house, physically assaulted him and ransacked the house. Smith escaped out the back door across the yard in the direction of the road. The two males left the house behind Smith and that was when Smith was struck in the abdomen by a bullet. The intruders then fled, and are still being sought by law enforcement officials.

Smith was transported by Northshore EMS to Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton. From there, Smith was airlifted to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.

Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Shannon Lyons said the intruders apparently did not take anything from the residence.

Lyons said the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about the case should contact Det. Corbet Hunt at 985-839-3434.
