Mandeville’s Lakeview High School teacher Barrett Adams was recently named the winner of the 2014-2015 Monteleone  Technology Award, given annually by the St. Tammany Parish Public School District.

The award comes with a $1,000 grant that will help offset the cost of a 3D printer at Lakeshore, school officials said.

Adams said the 3D printer would impact hundreds of students at Lakeshore, which is north of Mandeville. Students will be able to use 3D printing for projects ranging from models of cells and organs to replicas of historical objects and physics experiments, the district said.

A resident of the Rio Community near Bogalusa, Adams, 35, said the award was special.

“It’s fantastic,” Adams said of the award. “The kids have already learned how to make stuff, but they just couldn’t print things out. It’s going to be the next generation technology.”

Adams is a 1998 graduate of Bowling Green School in Franklinton. He is the son of Bruce and Debbie Adams.

The school district said the award was established in 2003 in memory of the late Leonard P. Monteleone, who was superintendent from 1995 to 2003. The award is presented annually to a teacher who uses technology in new and inventive ways in the classroom, the district said.
