A Monday afternoon fire all but destroyed a home at 1012 W. Sixth St.

Bogalusa Fire Chief Richard Moody said the home was fully involved when personnel arrived on scene at 4:11 p.m. He said officials had reports of people trapped inside, but that proved to be false.

Don Miller, an elderly resident who is confined to a wheelchair, got out safely, along with his granddaughter and her daughter.

Moody said nine puppies in the house died from smoke inhalation.

Moody said the fire in the three-bedroom home was electrical in nature.

“They pretty much lost everything,” Moody said. “The front of the house was gutted. One bedroom was totally involved.”

Moody said the home was not covered by insurance, but an effort to assist the victims has been set up. To make donations, one can call 985-750-2246.
