Emily Ruth Simmons Penny, age 73, born on Aug. 17, 1941, in Springhill, La., passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Franklinton. Mrs. Penny was a life-long resident of Bogalusa and a retired teacher of the Bogalusa City School System, where she taught for 26 years at Long Avenue School.

She is survived by three daughters, Ruth P. Mier (Matthew) of Bogalusa, Tammy P. Mitchell (Maurice) of Poplar Grove, Ill., and, Michele P. Meadows (Steve) of Poplarville, Miss.; one son, Osa Doyle Penny III (Marcellyne) of Lithia, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Beth Simmons Williams of Bogalusa; one brother, Thomas Mclain Simmons (Gloria) of Vildalia, La.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Osa Doyle Penny Jr., and her parents, Mclain Louis Simmons and Elizabeth Adams Simmons.

Visitation will be in the Chapel at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30, 2015, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., with services to follow. Graveside services will be at Ponemah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association, or donate to your favorite church.
