One of the great things about sports are the memories that are created and the dreams that come true.
A lot like life in general, it’s about working hard to achieve a long-term goal while accomplishing many short-term goals along the way.
In baseball, it might be getting your first hit in little league, making the varsity high school team and getting your first hit or your striking out your first hitter at that level.
If your talent and ability continue to rise, you could end up earning a scholarship to play in college.
Ultimately, for a select few in the different sports, they get drafted. The dream of many athletes is to put on a professional uniform. Those players are the best of the best. When you watch the drafts of the different sports, you are seeing dreams come true for the drafted players.
On Tuesday, the dreams of one player in Washington Parish came true.
In the fifth round with the 147th overall pick, the San Diego Padres selected Franklinton centerfielder Josh Magee.
Magee was the Demons’ leadoff hitter this season. His speed, combined with his patience at the plate, put opponents in a tough spot this year.
If you walked him, he could steal second and third. If you gave him something to hit and he got on, that single could become a double or triple or he could find a gap and turn a sure double into a triple.
In the field, Magee displayed great range. He also has the ability to get good jumps, and then he used his speed to track down fly balls.
Magee, a University of Southern Mississippi signee, now has a decision to make of whether or not to begin his professional career this summer or attend college, play at USM and go back in the draft in a few years.
Congratulations to Magee on being drafted by the Padres.
