A version of the popular “Peter Pan” children’s play will be presented Friday, May 22, in “Peter and Tink” at Cassidy Park.

Chelsea Krause wrote the play. She is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. Jim Winter is director. The play begins at 7 p.m.

This is the third straight year for Cassidy Park to host a children’s play.

“When I was in college at Southeastern, I minored in theater. When I graduated in 2008 and got this job, I called my old theater professor, Jim Winter, and asked if it was possible for him to create a show and bring it to Bogalusa,” Bogalusa Parks and Recreation Department Director Landon Tims said. “He got with the local theater group on campus and Alpha Psi Omega fraternity. They held auditions and held their first show here called ‘Alice the Brave.’”

Times continued, “It was a retelling of ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ a different take on the story,” Tims said. “Last year we did the same thing with ‘The Wizard of Oz.’”

Tims said the first play three years ago turned out to be a hit.

“We’re really hoping we can get everyone in the community to come out and support the city as well as the Parks and Recreation Department as we provide some wholesome, family-friendly entertainment to everyone in the city and parish. This show really means a lot to me personally considering my background n the arts, and I hope it inspires the children who come out to watch to pursue a future in the arts as well.”

Tims said staging the play is a win-win for the city of Bogalusa.

“This allows the person who wrote it to get published. They can’t get published until it is performed on stage,” Tims said. “What it does for the city and Bogalusa is tell it was first performed at Cassidy Park in Bogalusa in the credits. Not only does it help her to get published, but it also gives Bogalusa a little exposure.”
