Franklinton was strong in the Region 3-4A meet, as eight athletes across five events advanced to state Wednesday at East Jefferson High School in Metairie.

Individually, Peter Williams, Tavion Partman, Deante Cotton and P.J. Burkhalter all moved on.

Williams and Partman advanced with first-place finishes.

Williams captured the javelin with a distance of 150-6. He won by more than five feet over runner South Terrebonne’s Louis Blanchard (145-4).

Partman captured the triple jump with a distance of 43-6.5.

Edna Karr’s Monte White was second at 41-11.5.

Cotton was runner up for the discus at 131-0. He finished behind Vandebilt Catholic’s Paul Reding, who posted a 132-9.

Burkhalter was third in the shot put at 44-8.5. South Terrebonne’s Louis Blanchard captured the shot put with a distance of 48-10.

Franklinton’s 4×200 relay team is going to state after coming in third place with a time of 1:30.60 in a very close race.

McDonogh 35 won the event in 1:29. Karr was second at 1:30.34.

Franklinton’s runners were Azende T. Magee, Markus Conerly, Bryan Baham and Martavius James.

Wednesday’s meet was a qualifying meet. The top three finishers from each event advanced to the state meet. The Class 4A state meet is taking place May 9 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.

Franklinton is the only Class 4A team in Washington Parish.

Also for Franklinton, Rodney King finished eighth in the javelin (130-0) while Cotton was ninth in the shot put (38-11).

Partman took sixth in the long jump (19-4.5), as Landry/Walker’s Danvayon Pickett was victorious with a distance of 21-2.

Williams came in sixth for the triple jump (41-9.75).

King was ninth best in the 110 hurdles (18.41).

Landry/Walker’s Gerald Coleman topped the event in 15.78.

Magee was eighth in the 100 (11.34), as Riverdale’s Donté Jackson was victorious in 10.57.

Franklinton’s 4×100 team finished fifth (43.43). The group featured Magee, Conerly, Partman and James.

Morgan City captured the relay event in 42.45.

Baham took ninth for the 400 (53.96), as Salmen’s James Lambert was victorious in 50.02.

King ran 11th for the 300 hurdles (45.91). Coleman was the inner 40.92.

James came in sixth during the 200 (22.52) while Conerly was eighth (23.19). Jackson won at 21.21.

Franklinton’s 4×400 team was 14th (4:32). The group featured James, Conerly, William Walters and Baham.

Assumption was best in 3:30.

The Demons were fourth in the team competition with 45 points.

Edna Karr won the meet with 78 points.

Landry/Walker was just 10 points behind for runner up. Assumption (63) was third and McDonogh 35 (44) was fifth. Eighteen teams scored at least one point.

In the girls, Breanna Hebert was seventh in the javelin (85-10). St. Scholastica Academy’s Samantha Zelden won the javelin with a throw of 124-1.

Franklinton’s Tellise Magee (13.74) and Jada Thompson (13.86) ran 15th and 16th in the 100.

Karr’s Rikianne Patterson topped the event in 12.08.

Rockelle Bryant was 13th (2:49) in the 800, as Ben Franklin’s Paige Fatland ran a 2:27 for the victory.

Allyson Cassidy was 14th for the 400, as Warren Easton’s Nikole Haroon won in 59.56.

Karr won the girls’ competition with 90 points. Vandebilt Catholic (66) was second, followed by St. Scholastica Academy (61), Ursuline Academy (50) and South Terrebonne (39). Seventeen teams tallied at least one point.
