Eagles’ Fernandez, Taylor and Buccaneers’ Bischoff advance

Three Washington Parish athletes qualified for the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools overall meet at the South State Meet, which took place last Wednesday and two days ago at Silliman Institute.

Ben’s Ford Christian School teammates Dionte Fernandez and Aaron Taylor qualified for the Eagles while Daniel Bischoff advanced for Bowling Green School.

Fernandez captured the triple jump with a distance of 42-6.5. He won by nearly a foot over runner up John Milam of Hartfield Academy.

Taylor is headed to the overall meet after he finished third in the 300-meter hurdles in 43.32. Adams County Christian School’s Trey Fleming was victorious in the event at 40.95.

Bischoff moved on to the overall meet with a runner up tally in the 1,600 meters after finishing in 5:05. Centreville Academy’s Stone Reynolds was victorious in 5:04.

The field events took place last Wednesday. The running events, which were Wednesday, were set for Saturday but had to be postponed twice because of weather.

The meet was the qualifying meet for the overall event. The top four finishers from each event advanced to the overall meet, which is set for Friday and Saturday.

The field events are being held Friday at Jackson Academy. The running events are taking place the following day at Jackson Prep.

There were also some top six finishes locally.

Taylor was fifth (19-11) in the long jump while Fernandez was sixth (19-10).

Adams County Christian School’s Lester Wells won the event at 21-3.5.

Bowling Green’s 4×200 relay team came in fifth place (1:38). The group included Willie Beard, Grant Alexander, Brady Goings and Cameron Cowart.

Adams County Christian School was the winner in 1:32.

Ben’s Ford’s 4×100 squad took fifth (46.72). The team consisted of Taylor, Fernandez, Josh Moss and Bryan Johnson.

Silliman Institute was victorious in 45.06.

With 75 points, Silliman won the team competition by 10 over runner up Centreville Academy. Nine teams tallied at least one point. Adams County Christian School (58) was third, followed by Hartfield Academy (38) and Central Hinds Academy (29).

Ben’s Ford (11) was sixth, and Bowling Green (5) finished seventh.

In the girls’ competition, Ben’s Ford’s Savanna Smith finished fifth in the 3,200 meters (15:45). Laurel Christian School’s Erin Chard was victorious in 13:48.

Silliman won the girls’ team competitions with 54.5 points. They captured the meet by just 1.5 points over Centreville. Twelve teams scored at least one point.

Park Place (38) was third, followed by Central Private (35) and Wayne Academy (26).

Ben’s Ford (1) tied Prentiss Christian School for 11th.
