Ellis Jenkins

Ellis “Jack” Jenkins, age 85, born on Aug. 21, 1929, in Sun, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Hospice House in Slidell.

He was a United States Army veteran. A member of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church, he loved gardening and enjoyed mowing the church yard. He also retired after more than 30 years with the box factory. He was a kind person and loved his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Pat (John Ray) Stringer of Tylertown, Miss., and Terri (John) Clayton of Bogalusa; one sister, Hazel Gregoire of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Allison Stringer (Scott) Ervin, Jennifer Stringer (Ryan) Bruhl and Megan Clayton; a great-grandchild, Anna Kate Ervin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Faye Jenkins; his parents, Preston Carol Jenkins and Gabe Jenkins; and sisters and brothers, Carol Preston “Buddy” Jenkins, Hubert Jenkins, Elsie Talley, Wanzie Lee Sharp, Oda Lee Wheat and Ola Mae Hurd.

Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Friday, April 3, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Visitation will continue at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Marcus Rosa officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

The family of Ellis Jenkins wants to give a special “thanks” to St. Joseph Hospice and Hospice House for their compassion and kindness.
