Elmer Varnado Jr.

Elmer “Donnie” Varnado Jr., age 56, passed away passed away Feb. 27, 2015, at Ochsner’s North Shore in Slidell. He was a resident of Bogalusa and a U.S. Army veteran serving in the first Gulf War.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Varnado; one son, Casey Donell Varnado of Madisonville; two stepsons, John P. Brooks Sr. of Franklinton and Alcus Wayne Brooks of Slidell; one daughter, Dominique Rochelle Stroup of Lafayette; one stepdaughter, Billie Faye Brooks of Bogalusa; one brother, Tony Varnado of Bogalusa; one sister, Beverly Susan Boone of Sumrall, Miss.; a stepsister, Sheila Stogner of Bogalusa; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer D. “Bull” and Marion Varnado Sr.
Visitation was held in the chapel of Brown McGehee Funeral Home on Monday March 2, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Visitation continued on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time for services in the chapel at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Ponemah Cemetery with military rites conducted by Magic City Post No. 24 of the American Legion. The Rev. Don Thornberg officiated.
