Franklinton ran into a hot-shooting team in Lakeshore Tuesday night and suffered a 91-76 loss in a District 8-4A road game that was up-tempo throughout.

Lakeshore jumped out to a 30-21 lead after one, but with each team’s ability to score, no lead was really safe until the very end.

The contest featured some big individual scoring performances.

Franklinton’s Tray Anders led all scorers with 39 points and teammate Nick Burkhalter posted 15.

Lakeshore’s Ashon Cook knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to 31, and Nate Faciane had 18.

Lakeshore upped the lead to 34-23 in the second quarter, but Franklinton came back strong with an 11-0 run.

Darrius Dawson began the run with a pair of free throws at the 5:12 mark of the second quarter. Azende O. Magee found Burkhalter for a layup, and it was 34-27.

Burkhalter then hit for two to trim the margin to five.

Jadwyn Warren, who posted eight points, won a battle for a loose ball and was good for two before Burkhalter split from the line.

Resean Hart, who tallied seven, tied the game at the 2:50 mark by hitting a bucket and getting fouled. He missed the free throw, but things were even at 34-34.

Lakeshore responded with six unanswered.

Jason Wahlen, who posted eight, hit two free throws before Grant Stiebing was fouled after hitting a shot. He converted the 3-point play to make it a five-point lead.

Wahlen then split from the line to make it 40-34 with 1:25 remaining.

Anders took the ball nearly the length of the court for two, but Wahlen and Faciane combined for the half’s final four points, and the Titans were ahead, 44-36, at halftime.

Lakeshore continued to add to the lead in the third quarter. Its biggest lead was 71-54 with 27 seconds left. The Demons took two points off of the margin before the quarter ended and trailed, 71-56, through three.

Franklinton continued to work itself back into the game in the fourth quarter. The Demons had the lead down to six at 79-73 at the 3:45 mark, but the Titans were strong down the stretch, outscoring FHS 12-3 en route to the victory.

“Our goal was to press all night because they played a game last night,” Franklinton coach Randall Ginn said. “We were going with the theory of they had tired legs and we should’ve been fresh, and we looked like the ones with tired legs. We didn’t protect the basket. Any time of pressure, we ran three or four different types of pressure defenses, and we didn’t protect the basket in any of them. They did a great job of knocking down shots, and we didn’t.”

The loss put Franklinton at 17-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Also in the scoring column for Franklinton, Azende T. Magee posted seven points while Ryché Jenkins had three points and Azende O. Magee and Dawson put up two each.

Lakeshore moves to 19-7 overall and 2-3 in district.

Stiebing and Dillon Smith had 13 each for Lakeshore while Konrad Williams put up six and Lon Levy added two.
