Marshall Wayne Carter, age 73 and a resident of Pine, died at 12:58 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

He was a longtime member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church and retired as a dispatcher with Washington-St. Tammany Electric Co-op. Marshall enjoyed fishing, bird hunting and working in his garden. He loved to travel with his family, often visiting the mountains. Marshall loved sports and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports or whatever activities they had. He was always a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Lynne Thomas Carter of Pine; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha C. Miller and Kendal Miller of Mandeville; son and daughter-in-law, Rawlin W. Carter and Darnell S. Carter of Covington; eight grandchildren and spouses, Allison and Shane Hillman, Lyndon and Jason Shane, Matthew Mosley, Madison Miller, Kade Miller, Hilary and Evan LaCombe and Hayden Marshall Carter and fiancé Emily Butzman, Madison Adams; great-granddaughter, Ryan Elizabeth Shane; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Robert Yates of Hickory; special cousin, Janice Adkins of Gulfport, Miss.; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Bearden Mitchell; his grandmother, Lillian Owens; father and stepmother, Rawlin M. Carter and Lillian K. Carter; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lucille and Newton Thomas.

Visitation was at Pine Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Bro. Brent King and Bro. Glenn Stuart officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Community Cemetery.

The pallbearers were grandsons Matthew Mosley, Hayden Marshall Carter and Kade Miller and grandsons-in-law Jason Shane, Shane Hillman and Evan Lacombe.

The honorary pallbearers were Scott Miley, Bobbie Holmes, Evon Ladner, Ray Temples, Karl Miller, Doug Freeman, Bobby Luper, Charlie Thomas, Marvin Branch, Charles Ray Gerald, Jack Whaley, Claude Ard and Don Allen.
