Georgia Sumrall

Georgia Rae Sumrall, age 89 and a resident of Franklinton, died at 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Lakeview Medical Center. She was member of Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to gospel music. Alongside her family they had a grocery in Franklinton and later started the Hi-Way Pack near their home in the 1960s. Georgia was a caretaker of her family and loved for people to visit and drink coffee. She liked to go out to eat with her family and loved her beautiful flowers.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Donzil and Carole Sumrall, John L. Sumrall Sr. and Drusilla Sumrall and Allan Sumrall, all of Franklinton; five grandsons and spouses, Craig Sumrall, Kevin Sumrall, John L. Sumrall Jr. and Amy Sumrall, Christopher and Shannon Sumrall and Joseph and Ashley Sumrall; 12 great-grandchildren, Isabella Sumrall, Christina Sumrall, Ashley Cook, C.J. Sumrall, Hunter Sumrall, Stacey Sumrall, Emily Lopez, Jake Brooks, Braylee Sumrall, April Sumrall, Marissa Sumrall and Kaitlin Sumrall; a sister-in-law, Mae Strahan of Franklinton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Quince Sumrall; infant daughters Connie Sue Sumrall and Brenda Sumrall; granddaughter Barbara Ann Sumrall; her parents, George W. Varnado and Eula Simmons Varnado; and two brothers, Leo Varnado and Lattimore Varnado.

Visitation will be at Trinity Baptist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Thursday.

A funeral service will be held in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Walter Mixon, the Rev. Paul Watts and the Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Morris Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

The pallbearers are John L. Sumrall Jr., Christopher Sumrall, Joseph Sumrall, Craig Sumrall, C.J. Sumrall and Kenneth Strahan. The honorary pallbearers are Kevin Sumrall, Mike Sumrall, Jim Sumrall, Hunter Sumrall, Jackie Varnado, Jake Brooks and Raymond Williams.
