Franklinton downs Independence

Franklinton’s Chelsea Armand scored 23 points, and Shaikeria Fabré put up 20 in a 72-35 season opening victory over Independence on the road Tuesday.

Armand also knocked down five 3-pointers. She and Fabré were two of the three Lady Demons to reach double figures. Shelby McDonald finished with 17.

Jada Thompson put up seven for FHS, while Deja Martin added four and Kierra Williams had one.

Franklinton was 13-for-17 (76.4 percent) from the free-throw line.

Bowling Green defeats Oak Forest Academy

Bowling Green was victorious over Oak Forest Academy, 38-35, in a road game held Tuesday.

The Lady Buccaneers (3-2) got down, 9-4, in the first quarter, but rallied back.

They finished the period on an 11-2 run to go up 15-11 after one. Kristina Jerrell added to the spurt with a field goal to begin the second period scoring for a 17-11 lead.

Oak Forest came back and took a 32-28 advantage through three, but Bowling Green outscored OFA, 7-6, in the final period to secure the win.

Hollie Waskom scored 10 points to lead Bowling Green on 3-of-6 from the field.

Waskom also made four steals, blocked a shot, grabbed five rebounds and hit three of her four free throws. Ashley Foret tallied eight points, three boards, two assists and a steal.

Katelin Junkins posted six points, five rebounds, two steals, and a block.

McKinley Seal put up five points, and four boards, while Jerrell finished with four points and a steal. Reagan Moody finished with two points, and five rebounds in the Lady Bucs’ victory.

Pine defeats Varnado

Pine’s Lady Raiders were victorious in their opener Tuesday over Varnado, 55-41, at home.

Pine’s Breyanna Brown scored a game-high 17 points. Nyxavion Robertson put up 14, while Morgan finished with 11.

Varnado’s Breanna Holmes and Yienna Kemp tied for a team-high 14 points, with Tarralyn Moses recording 11.

BOYS

Franklinton victorious over Independence

Franklinton’s Tray Anders scored 33 points, helping the Demons collect a 75-43 win over Independence on the road Tuesday to begin the 2014-15 season. Nick Burkhalter was also in double figures, scoring 15 points. Peter Williams tallied nine, while Jadwyn recorded seven. K.J. Magee totaled four, while Quincy Stewart added three and Ethan Pittman along with Darrius Dawson both contributed two.

Bowling Green falls to Oak Forest Academy

Bowling Green suffered a 53-45 loss to Oak Forest Academy in Tuesday’s road game. K.J. Robertson had a big night, going for 24 points, eight rebounds, an assist and a steal for Bowling Green (2-1).Connor McCain finished with 13 points, and eight boards. He also had two assists, a block and a steal. Lane Adams added four points and three rebounds. Bryan Ottinger and Jared Gambino posted two each.

Pine captures opener

Pine’s Raiders defeated Varnado, 61-24, in Tuesday’s 2014-15 opener held at Pine.

Jordan Phelps topped all scorers with 15 points. Ty Galloway finished with 11 and Jamie Adcox recorded 10.

Gary Crumedy topped Varnado with nine points, while Errol Varnado and Jeroldrick Robinson both had five.
