Malcolm Lavell Quillen, a resident of Stone Mountain, Ga., and former resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014.

Malcolm, a graduate of Bogalusa High School and University of Louisiana in Lafayette, was the president of the Georgia School Nutrition Association and worked as school nutritionist for the DeKalb County School District. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Malcolm leave to mourn his passing and celebrate his life his wife, Vanessa May Quillen, daughter Alyssa Quillen and godson Alexander Quillen, Houston; Ta’Tian Perry of Sugar Hill, Ga.; Eric and Justin Slaccum of Simpsonville, S.C.; father, James Willie Johnson of Matherville, Miss.; maternal grandmother, Willie Mae Quillin Bogalusa; sisters, Vanessa (Bruce) Tyson of Bogalusa, Petrina (Thomas) Hartley of Houston, Alicia Wilson of Matherville, Crernora Johnson of Jackson, Miss., Maggie (Ronald) Weaver of Tampa, Fla., Alee (Daryl) of Cypress, Texas, Detrea Nesbit of Chicago and Francis Johnson of Dallas; brothers, Julius Quillen of Lafayette, Edwin Quillin of Bogalusa, James (Jennifer) Quillen of Houston, Terence Q. May of Springfield, La., James (Daniell) of Chicago, Gustavous Johnson of Chicago, Bryant Johnson of Chicago, Larry Johnson of New Orleans, Edward Johnson of Dallas, Alvin Johnson of New Orleans and Larry (Sue) Johnson of Atlanta; stepfather, Harline May of Angie; and mother-in-law, Mary Maxwell of Bogalusa, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sister-in-laws and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Quillen May; maternal grandfather, the Rev. Amel Quillin; paternal grandparents, Clemmie and Audrey Johnson; and godson, Roderick D. Brown.

Services will be held Friday night and Saturday morning at Berean Christian Church in Stone Mountain, Ga.
