Bowling Green’s boys and girls basketball took home the Silliman Institute Shootout Tournament championship Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, Connor McCain scored 19 points and K.J. Roberson put up a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Bucs’ 64-51 win over the host school in the finals.

McCain, who was 7-for-12 from the field, also finished with four rebounds, a block and four steals. Robertson was 5-for-12 in field goals, and 8-for-11 from the charity stripe. He also had six steals.

The Bucs (2-0) led 17-12 after the first quarter. The game was tied, 8-8, but the Bucs went on a 9-0 run to make it 17-8.

Silliman tallied the final four points of the first. The Wildcats knocked down a 3-pointer for the initial points of the second quarter and trimmed the margin to 17-15.

The Bucs response was an 11-2 spurt to go up 28-17 and they led, 33-22, at the break.

Silliman got no closer than 37-30 in the second half, as the Bucs won tournament title.

Jared Gambino, had 12 points, grabbed three rebounds and made two steals. Bryan Ottinger tallied eight points on 3-of-4 from the field to go with four steals. Brady Goings had with three points and two steals, while Lane Adams and Spencer Graves added two each. Graves also tallied three steals.

On the girls side, Bowling Green used a balanced scoring attack to win the finals, 47-37, over Oak Forest Academy.

Kristina Jerrell topped the Lady Bucs in scoring with 13 points to go with two rebounds. Reagan Moody nearly hit a double-double. She posted 12 points and nine rebounds, five offensive and five steals. Hollie Waskom put up nine points, four rebounds and two steals. Ashley Foret filled up the stat sheet with five points, six boards, four steals, three assists and a block. McKinley Seal added four points, while Katelin Junkins and Peyton Stogner scored two points each.

The Lady Buccaneers trailed 12-11 after the first quarter. They still trailed by one in the second, 27-26, but Jerrell was good from 3-point range to put her club ahead 29-27. Bowling Green had a 30-28 lead at halftime. The Lady Bucs began pulling away in the third quarter. Leading, 32-30, Bowling Green finished the period on a 6-1 run and had a 38-31 advantage after three. Waskom hit a 2-pointer for the opening points of the fourth quarter, and Foret split free throws for a 41-31 lead.

OFA never got the margin below 10 after that.
