Bowling Green bounces back from loss

Bowling Green rebounded from Tuesday’s season opening loss Thursday by defeating Jackson Prep, 62-57, in the East Rankin Tournament.

Bowling Green led the contest, 36-19, at halftime, but Jackson Prep outscored the Lady Buccaneers, 15-8, in the third quarter to close the margin to 10.

Jackson Prep got as close as four in the final period at 61-57 but could get no closer in the Lady Bucs’ win.

Kristina Jerrell scored 15 points with four rebounds for Bowling Green (1-1).

Hollie Waskom tallied a double-double by recording 13 points and 12 boards to go with two assists.

Ashley Foret and McKinley Seal both put up 10 points. Foret also logged six assists and five steals, while Seal added five assists and two steals.Sydney Watson posted six points, with all of her points coming from beyond the arc. Payton Stogner finished with four points, and Katelin Junkins along with Reagan Moody scored two for the Lady Bucs. Bowling Green knocked down 21 of its 46 field goals (45.7 percent) and 16 of its 25 free throws (64 percent).

Bowling Green’s boys and girls team both play in the Silliman Tourament, which runs Nov. 10-15.

Ben’s Ford comes up short to Hattiesburg

Ben’s Ford Christian School lost its opener, 35-31, to Hattiesburg in Tuesday’s home game.

The Lady Eagles trailed, 22-10, at halftime but came back and took a three-point lead in the fourth quarter. Savanna Smith led the Lady Eagles with 17 points. Olivia Miley was next with eight.Cheyenne Riley added three. Calli Sprehe finished with two, and Addison Seal chipped in with one.

Bowling Green falls in season opener

Bowling Green suffered a 45-30 loss Tuesday against Madison-Ridgeland Academy in the East Rankin Tournament.

Reagan Moody put up seven points while pulling down seven rebounds.

Sydney Watson and Kristina Jerrell both finished with six points. Ashley Foret had four points and six rebounds.

McKinley Seal posted three points with four assists and two rebounds.

Hallie Waskom and Katelin Junkins both added two for the Lady Buccaneers.

Bowling Green trailed by just six at halftime, 20-14, but was outscored 12-3 in the third quarter.

The Lady Bucs struggled with their shooting.

Bowling Green hit just 10-of-47 from the floor (21.3 percent) and was only able to knock down 6-of-16 from the free-throw line (37.5) in the loss.

Ben’s Ford captures opener

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Eagles were victorious by 21 in its opening game of the 2014-15 year with a 63-42 win over Hattiesburg at home Tuesday.

Peyton Robbins paced the Eagles with 22 points.

Bryan Johnson was second for Ben’s Ford, as he put up 19 in the Eagles win.

Ben’s Ford’s boys and girls teams both played after press time and are both back in action Nov. 17, hosting Prentiss Christian School.
