This weekend is always a fun weekend for fans of teams in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and the National Football League, as both open their seasons.

Those who are also fans of college, high school, and the NFL get football nearly every day of the week.

The NFL regular season began last night when the Packers battled the Seahawks after press time.

Tonight’s local high school schedule features four teams opening their regular season in Bogalusa, Franklinton, Pine and Varnado.

Bogalusa, Pine and Varnado are at home, hosting Kentwood, Pearl River, and Dexter, respectively. Dexter is located in Mississippi in Walthall County, near Tylertown.

Franklinton is also playing a school from Mississippi, but on the road as the Demons face Tylertown.

All four teams are coming off of playoff seasons with Franklinton going the furthest last year and reached the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state playoffs.

Two more teams with opposite records are continuing their seasons against teams with the same record.

Ben’s Ford Christian School (2-0) is looking to make it three straight in a battle with Columbia Academy (2-0) on the road. Bowling Green (0-2) competes in its second home game and takes on Wilkinson County Christian Academy (0-2).

Fast forward to Sunday where the Black-and-Gold open 2014, as the Saints take to the road to play the Atlanta Falcons.

The Saints enter this year after an 11-5 year. New Orleans finished second in the NFC South to the Carolina Panthers.

New Orleans won its first road playoff game in franchise history with a 26-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Saints made some additions to bolster the roster, including safety Jairus Byrd, who’s been to three probowls and has 22 interceptions in his five years of play.

New Orleans’ home opener is scheduled for Sept. 21 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Saints play four of their six games on the road.
