DWELLINGHAM

Alva Mae Dwellingham, 68, of New York City, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y.

Alva was born on June 6, 1945, the seventh of eight children born to James and Johnie Mae Jackson. She graduated from Central Memorial High School and attended Los Angeles City College.

Alva gave her life to Christ at an early age at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Bogalusa, and was a longtime member of Bethel Gospel Assembly Church in New York.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Erschel Maria Dwellingham; two sons, Christopher Ryan (Tanya) Dwellingham of Atlanta and Herschel Emerson (Lynette) Dwellingham of Trenton, N.J.; four brothers, James Jackson of Mississippi, John Jackson of Seattle, Henry Jackson of Tacoma, Wash., and Claude Jackson of Canton, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Christopher Marquise Dwellingham, Marcus Dwellingham, Ryan Dwellingham, Angelique McNeil and Asheree McNeil, of Atlanta, Mikael Dwellingham of Buffalo, N.Y., Alva Maria Dwellingham of Manhattan, N.Y., and Peighton Dwellingham of Trenton, N.J.; two great-grandchildren, Skie’ Dwellingham of Manhattan and Jerni Oliver of Atlanta; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Johnie Mae Jackson; her father, James Jackson; two brothers, Lewis Jackson and Avery Jackson; and a sister, Billie Rose Jackson.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 26, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Raymond Mims as eulogist. Interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
