BRUMFIELD

Rev. Denny Brumfield, 47, a resident of the Crain’s Creek community, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2014.

He was a minister of the Lord for more than 25 years, first as a youth pastor at several churches and then as the pastor of Thomas First Baptist Church for more than 12 years.

Born on July 3, 1966, Denny graduated from Bowling Green School in 1984 and continued to give back to the school by coaching youth football and basketball for many years. He also coached Dixie Youth Baseball for 20 years and enjoyed fishing when he could. Denny was a loving husband and a very “hands-on” dad to his own children and a mentor to the hundreds of children he contacted through the years. He was a giving person who helped people in all walks of life. He was a friend to all those he met and he will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Thomas Brumfield of Crain’s Creek; a daughter, Kayla Ellen Brumfield; a son, Jacob Colden Brumfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Tanna Brumfield of Clifton; a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa Brumfield Jenkins and Brent Jenkins of Clifton; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Linda Thomas, Ronnie and Anita Thomas, Kevin and Tisha Thomas and Zander and Stacey Thomas; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sherry and Bill Pope, Shannon and Delbert Dillon and Lorraine and Joseph Branch; 13 nieces; 14 nephews; several aunts and uncles; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Denman Colden Brumfield and Imogene Thomas Brumfield; two nieces, Grace Brumfield and Brandy Shannon Dillo; a nephew, Samuel James Brumfield; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard Ned Thomas Edna Earle Thomas.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22 at Crain Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m., with Dr. Gene Richards and the Rev. Percy Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas/Forest Haven Cemetery.
