Great American Cleanup this week

The Great American Cleanup in Washington Parish will take place Wednesday and Thursday.

Volunteers are needed to help clean up roads and highways throughout the parish in the event being organized by Keep Washington Parish Beautiful.

Group leaders will meet at Choctaw Landfill, 22249 Choctaw Road, at 7 a.m.

Bottled water, gloves and trash bags will be provided to volunteers and distributed to group leaders. To arrange for early pickup of supplies, call the landfill at 848-2920.

KWPB can arrange for all bags of litter collected from roads and highways to be picked up and taken to the landfill. However, it would be helpful if group leaders are able to transport litter directly to the landfill.

Be sure to inform the gate attendant that it is from roadside cleanup.

There are six drop-off locations in Bogalusa: Cassidy Park; the Avenue B Sports Complex, Austin and Debrigny; Columbia and East 5th; the old Winn-Dixie parking lot; and the Main Street Ballpark.

In Bogalusa, call Landon Tims at 516-3870.

This activity can be used for students in need of service hours, and KWPB asks that a coordinator be assigned for each group. The organization will furnish an official form documenting service hours.

For more information, call Troy Barber at 515-6575.
